FGF-1 also increased the BDNF mRNA level in a time- and dose-dependent manner. The BDNF mRNA level remained high in FGF-1-stimulated cells for at least 24 h. The acquisition is an interesting move for McDonald's, as most fast food chains have slowly moved away from offering meals to more people, with the notable exception being Chick-fil-A, which is going full steam ahead.
And it's a move that definitely fits with McDonald's increasingly turning to wellness-related businesses. In March, the company announced that it would acquire Skinny Cow, makers of the Happy Cow ice cream, and earlier this year it acquired healthy food and beverage brand Simply Mayonnaise.
